Spike protein is an envelope-anchored protein that mediates the recognition and binding of coronaviruses (SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19) to host cells. Spike protein can be further cleaved by the host protease into two subunits called S1 and S2, wherein the S1 subunit contains a receptor binding domain (RBD) crucial for the specific recognition and interaction with the host cell receptor, ACE2. This is the first and the most essential step for the virus infection.
An IgG monoclonal antibody to SARS-CoV-2 S1 with high affinity was screened and the variable regions were grafted into a template human IgG framework. The humanized monoclonal antibody (Mab) mimics the IgG antibody in the patients’ serum or plasma specimens. It can be used as a positive control for SARS-CoV-2 S1 IgG High-Sensitivity Quantitative ELISA kit (RUO) (Cat No. 41A232).
