Peptidase M20 domain containing 1 (PM20D1) is a circulating enzyme, which in human regulates the production of N-fatty-acyl amino acids by catalysing it from fatty acids and amino acids. PM20D1 has been found to be implicated in obesity, type 2 diabetes, pain, and Alzheimer’s disease.
It has been found that mice with increased circulating PM20D1 show an increase in respiration rate and a surge in N-acyl amino acids in blood. The PM20D1 and N-fatty-acyl amino acid relation identifies an enzymatic node and a family of metabolites that regulate energy homeostasis; this pathway might be useful for treating obesity and associated disorders.
